Marvel teases a new mystery hero who may outpower Red Hulk in ‘Avengers: Armageddon’

Also on sale in July, CAPTAIN AMERICA #13 by Zdarsky and Ton Lima continues the arc that follows Captain America’s epic team-up with Doctor Doom on his journey back to Earth to prevent ARMAGEDDON.

The road to a major Avengers shakeup begins this June in Avengers: Armageddon, a five-issue event series from writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar. Marvel has revealed the cover for issue #2, along with story details, hinting at a new hero stepping into the conflict with power that could surpass both sides.

The event builds out of Zdarsky’s Captain America run and the recently launched Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon limited series. The story centers on a newly assembled team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes racing to stop Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, also known as Red Hulk, after his takeover of Latveria sets off a global crisis. Readers following Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon will get more insight into the mystery hero and the origins of their abilities, which may prove even more dangerous than Red Hulk himself.

At the same time, Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti’s Captain America run continues to connect directly to the event. The next arc begins in July’s Captain America #13, with guest artist Ton Lima, as Steve Rogers finds himself stranded far from Earth and forced into an uneasy alliance with Doctor Doom to find a way home.

YOU’RE GOING DOWN, THUNDERBOLT ROSS!

In AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON #2, Red Hulk’s tirade across the globe must be stopped! Until a mysterious new hero with unrivaled power appears to level Red Hulk and the Avengers…

“We’ve been building to this moment for well over a year, with a new character who will truly unsettle the world,” Zdarsky teased. “I’m delighted at the devastation that follows. Is that weird?”

CAPTAIN AMERICA: HELL’S ANGEL!

In CAPTAIN AMERICA #13, Victor von Doom has captured the soul of Captain America, dragging him to an unfamiliar battlefield to use him as an unwilling weapon. As Steve Rogers struggles to survive in a world he doesn’t understand, the world he left behind needs him more than ever. And Armageddon draws ever closer…
