Over the past year, Marvel Comics has been building toward a defining chapter for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The fallout from One World Under Doom and Chip Zdarsky’s run on Captain America set the stage. This June, that momentum culminates in Avengers: Armageddon, a five-issue event series written by Zdarsky alongside artists Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, known for their work on Doomed 2099 and recent issues of Captain America.
After developments in Captain America and Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, the new series delivers a dramatic shift for the Avengers. The story opens in Latveria, where Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, now Red Hulk, seizes control of Doom’s homeland and sparks an international crisis. As the Avengers mobilize to stop him, the conflict intensifies and pushes the team toward a decision that will permanently alter how the world views its greatest champions. The consequences carry directly into a new era of Avengers launching later this year.
Red Hulk’s campaign leaves devastation in its wake, forcing a massive response that draws in the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wolverine, and other major players from across the Marvel Universe. The confrontation promises sweeping repercussions that divide the Marvel Universe into two distinct phases before and after Armageddon.
Marvel has also revealed a cover by Dike Ruan, with additional details about Avengers: Armageddon expected in the coming weeks.
