‘Witchblade/Vampirella’ kicks off swap crossover similar to ‘Superman/Spider-Man’

The first one-shot centers on Detective Sara Pezzini, who has faced plenty of supernatural threats, but nothing quite like this.

Witchblade writer Marguerite Bennett (Odin, Bombshells, Batwoman) is teaming with fan-favorite artist Laura Braga (Future State: The Next Batman, Captain Marvel, Dazzler) for a new crossover one-shot, Witchblade/Vampirella #1. The issue arrives in August from Image Comics and Top Cow, with a second crossover, Vampirella/Witchblade #1, following in September from Dynamite Entertainment by writer Erica Schultz (Rat City, The Deadliest Bouquet) and artist Valentina Pinti (Daredevil: Unleash Hell).

“This is the kind of crossover that only works when everyone leans in—creatively and as partners,” said Top Cow President and COO Matt Hawkins. “You’ve got two iconic characters, two publishers, and a story that doesn’t play it safe. It puts Sara and Vampirella on a collision course where trust is fragile, and the consequences are permanent.”

The swap between publishers is similar to what DC and Marvel have been up to over the last year.

Dynamite Entertainment CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci added, “It’s been over 20 years since Witchblade and Vampirella teamed up. The previous stories were fantastic, and we needed the right creators to ensure that we were bringing even more compelling stories to the fans. Working hand-in-hand with Top Cow, we were able to do just that. These stories will excite fans and we can’t wait to get these stories into fans’ hands.”

The first one-shot centers on Detective Sara Pezzini, who has faced plenty of supernatural threats, but nothing quite like this. A mutated vampire begins tearing through the city, leaving chaos in its wake and pushing Sara to her limits. As the situation worsens, Vampirella arrives to help, but Sara has already been bitten. With time running out, the question becomes whether Vampirella will act to save her or end the threat before it spreads.

“Witchblade and Vampirella go together like me and Laura Braga—our story is fun, sexy, ferocious, and full of monstrosity,” said Bennett. “Times are tough and everyone deserves a treat—including Sara Pezzini and Vampirella. ;D”
