José Andrés joins Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in ‘Meals to Astonish: Avengers’ #1 this October

Chef José Andrés returns to the Marvel Universe for another action-packed adventure, this time joining the Avengers to stop Ultron!

After making his Marvel Comics debut earlier this year, world-renowned chef, restaurateur, humanitarian, and educator José Andrés is back for another adventure. This October, Marvel will release Meals to Astonish: Avengers #1, the second installment in the Meals to Astonish one-shot series inspired by the mission of World Central Kitchen.

The series pairs Andrés with Marvel’s greatest heroes while highlighting World Central Kitchen’s work providing meals to communities affected by disasters and humanitarian crises around the globe. Returning creators Steve Orlando and Roi Mercado lead the main story, while the issue also features a new installment of Jeff’s Table by Michelin-starred chef Paul Eschbach and artist E.J. Su, along with the debut of VenomNom, a new backup by Jacob Chabot.

This time, Andrés teams up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when he and Tony Stark travel to Las Vegas to unveil new disaster relief technology. Their plans are interrupted by Ultron, forcing the Avengers into action to protect both the groundbreaking invention and the people depending on it.

Speaking about returning for a second chapter, Orlando said:

“It was already an honor to work with Chef Andrés and welcome him to the Marvel Universe, but once we saw the Avengers working alongside World Central Kitchen to aid Manhattan, we knew we weren’t done. Just like Tony Stark, we caught the idea and went big with it. Now we’re imagining how global aid could work alongside Chef Andrés. The Avengers have finally met a force that works just as hard to feed the world as they do to save it. Getting back in the room with the Chef and Marvel has been great, and dreaming up comic book ways to feed the world is a dream.”

Andrés shared his excitement about returning to the Marvel Universe:

“First Manhattan, now Las Vegas?! It’s an honor of a lifetime to team up with my heroes, the Avengers, for an even bigger battle in Sin City. Together with the Marvel Universe we are taking on the greatest mission of all: to feed the world.”

Marvel has also revealed Leinil Francis Yu’s cover for the one-shot ahead of its October release. Check it out below.
