Dark Horse Comics and Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast have announced a brand-new ongoing Dungeon & Dragons comic series, launching November 4, 2026.
The new flagship series is written by Eisner Award nominees Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (Star Trek: The Last Starship, Captain America, NYX), with artwork by Ibraim Roberson, inks by Arabson Oliveira, colors by Dan Brown, and letters by Haley-Rose Lyon.
Set in the Forgotten Realms, the series follows the legendary wizard Mordenkainen, who has been stripped of his magic as a draconic apocalypse threatens the realm. To stop it, he must unite some of Faerûn’s greatest heroes, including Volo, Tasha, and other iconic adventurers.
Issue #1 features a main cover by Esad Ribić, alongside variant covers by Tyler Jacobson, Antonio José Manzanedo (foil), Karen Darboe, Mateus Manhanini, and a 1:25 incentive cover by Eric Canete.

Each issue will also include exclusive backmatter, featuring essays from tabletop RPG personalities or Dungeon & Dragons campaign content created specifically for the single issues. The debut issue includes an essay by Erika Ishii, known for voice acting work and appearances on Dimension 20.
“This book is the very definition of a passion project for us,” Kelly said. “We’ve been roleplaying together for as long as we’ve been a writing team, which is only slightly less than we’ve been friends. Playing D&D is how we started to fuse our individual storytelling instincts into the incredible blade of our partnership.”
Kelly added that the series aims to capture what makes the tabletop game special.
“Player catharsis only comes from character pain,” Kelly said. “Sadly for our characters, we’re about to end the world.”
Lanzing described the series as an ambitious new chapter for the franchise.
“Dungeons & Dragons is a distillation of everything we love about story, a collision of arcane prophecy, ever-growing characters, and wild spectacle, wrapped in a mystery that reaches to the very beginnings of D&D itself,” Lanzing said. “This is the new ongoing, flagship D&D story and every issue, we’re going to fulfill that promise.”
He continued, “Whether you’re new to the Forgotten Realms or a level 20 paladin looking for the next ground-shaking fantasy epic, Dungeons & Dragons is for you.”
According to Dark Horse, the series begins as a draconic apocalypse bears down on the Forgotten Realms with Mordenkainen at its center. Though robbed of his magic, the legendary wizard remains determined to restore balance before it’s too late.
Dungeon & Dragons #1 arrives in comic shops on November 4, 2026, for $4.99 and is available now for preorder through local comic shops.
