It’s happening: Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch confirmed

IT’S HAPPENING!

In a surprise at the end of today’s Nintendo Direct conference, Super Smash Bros. has finally been announced for the Nintendo Switch — and it will be released sometime this year.

Details were exceptionally scarce; all we got was a Smash Bros. title card along with “2018” at the very end of the live stream. But that’s plenty to set the internet ablaze.

Super Smash Bros. is one of the most beloved franchises Nintendo has, pitting classic video game characters from the entire industry against one another in crazy four player combat. The game hasn’t seen a console release since 2014’s Super Smash Bros. Wii U on…well, the Wii U.

The franchise has been rumored for release on the Switch since the console’s inception, but Nintendo has been notoriously coy about its release. Though almost no details were announced today, you can bet we’ll be learning plenty more about it, including characters making the cut, as the months go by.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch will launch sometime in 2018.
