Dallas Fuel’s Brandon “Seagull” Larned retires from professional Overwatch

He’s leaving Overwatch League for a different beach.

Overwatch League professional player Brandon “Seagull” Larned announced his retirement from professional Overwatch today. Larned played a flex role as member of the Dallas Fuel and made his retirement announcement via his official Twitter account.

Mere minutes after his announcement the Dallas Fuel also announced his retirement via their official Twitter account. The message includes a tribute video and kind message thanking Seagull for his impact on the league and the game as a whole.

Seagull has been a fixture in the Overwatch community since the game was first released. He was one of the first steamers to gain fame for his incredible level of skill with Overwatch and his Twitch channel helped drawn a lot of streamers and members of the gaming community to the game.

It came as no surprise when Seagull was drafted to the Dallas Fuel and joined Blizzard’s new venture into professional Overwatch. Along with the often controversial xQc, Seagull was an early fan favorite and one of the top streamers fans expected to make a debut in Overwatch League’s inaugural season.

“The versatility, at a high level of skill, that Seagull brought to the Dallas Fuel this season is a model that all up-and-coming Overwatch players can learn from. His aptitude for the game is one of the best ever seen in Overwatch and he was a key leader both in and out of game for the Fuel. I wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Aaron “Aero” Atkins, Head Coach of the Dallas Fuel.

It’s possible Dallas’ poor performance and seemingly never ending team drama contributed to his decision, but Seagull isn’t saying. At the time of his retirement announcement he was streaming to an audience of over 10,000 people on Twitch and was met with waves of positivity. Moving forward Seagull says his plan is to focus on streaming and building his community, which is at over 750,000 followers on Twitch.
