Boston Uprising sign Persia, trade off-tank NotE, acquire rCk

Boston picks up a support, and trades off-tanks with Dallas Fuel.

The Overwatch League’s Boston Uprising are making moves today. The Stage 1 playoff contenders have announced the signing of two new players that they hope will help them on their road to the Overwatch League Season 2 Championship.

Zion “Persia” Yang becomes the newest flex support player to join the Uprising. The 20-year old South Korean support player comes to Boston from the Overwatch Contenders League Pacific division team, Talon Esports — the first place team from Season Two of Overwatch Contenders League.

“We are excited to welcome Zion ‘Persia’ Yang to our team,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Kraft Group. “We look forward to having him as a part of the Uprising and feel he will be a key member moving forward.”

Persia joins Kristian “Kellex” Keller, Kwon “AimGod” Min-seok, and Renan “alemao” Morett in the support role for the Uprising.

In a much more surprising move the Boston Uprising have traded off-tank Lucas “NotE” Meissner to the Dallas Fuel in exchange for off-tank Richard “rCk” Kanerva. Both players are known for their exceptional Zarya and D.Va play, two heroes that are vital to almost every starting team composition.

Kanerva joined the Dallas Fuel prior to Season 2 on a two-year contract from the Overwatch Contenders League European division, where he played for Team Gigantti. Hailing from Finland, rCk plays both off-tank and flex tank, and got his start in professional Overwatch with ENCE Esports, a Finnish team.

“We are excited to welcome rCk to the Uprising,” Loranger said. “We look forward to having him as a part of the team moving forward and believe he will be a key contributor for us.”

NotE has been with the Uprising since the inaugural season, joining them from Toronto Esports. Prior to the trade, NotE started in every match for Boston during Season 2.

“We want to thank NotE for his many contributions to the Uprising,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for The Kraft Group. “He was a key part of our team as a player and a person and we wish him nothing but the best of luck with the Fuel moving forward.”

Both players will be eligible to play for their new teams for Overwatch League’s Stage 2, which begins Thursday April 4th. The Boston Uprising will face off against the Atlanta Reign at 8:45 EST, while the Dallas Fuel will enjoy a bye week.
