Saturday at the D23 Expo fan-convention director JJ Abrams and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy unveiled the first official poster for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Seen on the poster is Rey (Daisy Ridley) squaring off against Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) on top of what appears to be a broken ship piece (perhaps inside a destroyed Death Star) with the shadowed face of Emperor Palpatine and his iconic Sith eyes looming in the background. Enjoy it for yourself below:

During the panel today, Abrams, Kennedy and a number of cast members hit the stage to share information about the upcoming movie, as well as special moments and memories shared before, during and after filming.
“What an ending. I can’t wait for you to share what we have all been doing all these months under J.J.,” said Anthony Daniels at the panel to a strong ovation.
“Lando has never left me,” said Billy Dee Williams, who returns to the role of Lando Calrissian after being away for over 35 years. “I’ve been here all these years, these 40 years, is a very special experience for me and I just want to thank you all.”
“Of course, we can’t talk about the cast without talking about Carrie Fisher,” said Abrams. “And the character of Leia is really in a way the heart of this story. We could not tell the end of these 9 films without Leia. And we realized that we had footage from episode 7 that we realized we could use in a new way. So Carrie, as Leia, gets to be in the film.”
“But the crazy part is we started to work on this movie and I wasn’t supposed to be directing this movie [as Colin Trevorrow was originally tapped as director],” continued Abrams. “Then we lost Carrie. And I was hired on this film and began working. And I remember this thing that I had read that I actually thought I was mistaken. I looked in her last book, The Princess Diarist, and she had written, ‘Special thanks to J.J. Abrams for putting up with me twice.’ Now I had never worked with her before Force Awakens and I wasn’t supposed to do this movie. So it was a classic Carrie thing to sort of write something like that that could only mean one thing for me. We couldn’t be more excited to have you see her in her final performance as Leia.”
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019. In the mean time, enjoy the teaser trailer!
