‘Top Chef’ season 17 Power Rankings: week 11

The chefs make fancy airline food and recreate iconic dishes from the renowned L.A. institution, Michael’s Santa Monica.

For the first time, Top Chef is going to Europe for the finals. Tuscany to be exact. But before the contestants could travel out to the international culinary destination, they still had to get past the challenges of Week 11. For the quickfire, Jonathan Waxman shared how he was in charge of the food for American Airlines in 1988. He wanted the chefs to create high end airline food that had to fit the height restrictions and dimensions of airline trays and be composed of ingredients available year-round.

Afterwards, they all visited an L.A. institution, Michael’s Santa Monica, where they were served iconic dishes from the restaurant’s 40-year history. They were then to recreate those dishes and serve it for the judges and the chefs who originally crafted them for the elimination challenge.

Melissa broke out of her funk of three straight elimination bottom finishes by winning both challenges and earning the number one spot in the Power Rankings. On the other hand, Brian’s luck ran out and he was kicked off the show for an incompatible duo dish.
