What’s in the pen? Jim Gaffigan cast as Thunderbolt in ‘DC’s Stargirl’ season 2

Could the new JSA expand in season 2 of DC’s Stargirl? Looks like Thunderbolt is arriving.

Superhero shows and movies like to incorporate Easter eggs to add a little extra enjoyment for fans of the source material and DC’s Stargirl is no exception. At several points in the first season, a mysterious pink pen appeared. Courtney even pilfered the item from the artifacts at the JSA Headquarters but not before being struck by an electrical charge from the pen.

In the next season of the CW series, the pink pen will be explored even further. Some comic readers could recognize the artifact that contained the 5th Dimension jinn, Thunderbolt. EW recently announced that comedian, Jim Gaffigan, has been cast to voice the CGI character. Thunderbolt is described as someone who grants wishes that usually cause more trouble for the wisher. Despite all the mischief , he always means well and has his heart in the right place.

On the show, Pat Dugan always warns about how dangerous a weapon the Thunderbolt is and we’ll soon see in the second season. EW jokingly speculates that Mike might be the one to unleash the power but in one of the first season episodes, Courtney’s step brother makes reference to his friend Jakeem. JSA fans know that Jakeem Williams frees Thunderbolt from the pen ten years after being trapped and becomes the superhero, Jakeem Thunder.

DC’s Stargirl will return for its second season in 2021 on the CW. In the meantime, catch up on the first season with our recaps from Shane Martin.
