Magic: the Gathering Kaldheim preview live stream announced

Get a sneak peak of the newest MTG set.

Axes. Horses. Norse mythology. Kaldheim has it all. Have you been feeling starved for Magic: the Gathering? I sure have. The newest set, Kaldheim, won’t be released until February 5, 2021, but Wizards of the Coast is streaming what is to come in a special preview live stream on Twitch on January 7 at 9am PST.

I told you there were horses.

For anyone unaware, Kaldheim is the upcoming set of 350 to 450 Magic cards, heavily inspired by one of the most hardcore mythologies from ancient history. From the pagan gods of battle, to the cosmic wolf harbinger of Ragnarok and loveable squirrels, Kaldheim’s harsh tundra is teeming with fantastic heroes and beasts. This set is shaping up to be a really intriguing one for the flavor nerds.

A closer look at Halvar, God of Battle, actually tells a mini story with its card mechanics. From your hand, it can be played as either this Thor-like god or a mighty sword, which is printed on the reverse side of the card. The idea is that you can either call upon the ancient gods themselves or instead wield their powers with the legendary relics they leave behind.

These spoilers so far are piquing the interest of many a Magic player right now. I for one am incredibly excited to tune in next Friday and see what else is in store on this icy, metal hell-plane. What Norse myths do you hope make it in? I’m pulling for Kratos, personally.

A Norse mythology buff

If you like Magic: the Gathering lore as much as I do, I recommend David Brooke’s article about the D&D-esque plane of Zendikar in the meantime. It’s a great way to start acquainting yourself with the game if this was just a little too much.

I’ll be sure to write and help you learn more about Kaldheim in the months to come, so stay posted. I’ll be back next week with another Magic piece for you guys because I love this game so much, but until then, keep on castin’.
