Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 03/01/2021

We have a beginning, a return, and an end.

For our Channel Surfing TV picks this week, we have a beginning, a return, and an end. Government agents collect pieces of an alien ship that have science defying properties in the new series, Debris. Barry is on the clock, twofold, with his powers and his wife in the season seven premiere of The Flash. Finally, after Agatha reveals what she really is, how will Wanda respond in the season finale of WandaVision.

Every Piece Holds a Power

Broadcast television has spawned some fan favorite sci-fi procedurals such as the X-Files and Fringe. From these shows came recognizable duos including Mulder and Scully and Olivia Dunham and Peter Bishop. NBC is looking to add to this legacy with their brand-new series, Debris.

The story follows government operatives, Finola Jones and Bryan Beneventi, as they investigate odd and unexplained events throughout the world initiated by the scattered remains of a destroyed alien spacecraft. They are tasked with resolving these phenomena and retrieving this space “debris” to ensure the groundbreaking technology doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Debris premieres tonight, March 1, on NBC.

Escaping the Mirrorverse

With Arrow ending last year, The Flash is now the longest running Arrowverse show so it has big shoes to fill as it carries the mantle. On Tuesday, March 2, the superhero series will return for its seventh season on The CW.

The previous season saw new executive producer and showrunner, Eric Wallace, tweak the format of The Flash and divide it into several “graphic novel” arcs. Because of the pandemic, we never received a conclusion to the third graphic novel so the season premiere has been reworked to finish the past storyline. We’ll find out if Barry can stop Eva McCulloch and save his missing wife, Iris West-Allen.

One Witching Finale

It’s no surprise that fans would flock to Marvel Studios’ first foray into television with WandaVision. The past two weeks, Disney+ has even experienced server problems the moment the new episode dropped so let’s hope that doesn’t happen again with the finale.

For the past seven weeks, we’ve followed along on this wild ride exploring the titular characters with the backdrop of travelling through the decades of television sitcoms. There’s been a lot of theories and speculation and even when we guess correctly, the show still manages to surprise. Hopefully most of our answers will be answered and we’ll see how it sets up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The season finale of WandaVision can be streamed this Friday, March 5, on Disney+.
