Top Chef, the award-winning culinary reality competition, began last week with some noticeable changes to accommodate filming during the pandemic. Fortunately, the quality of the food was unaffected with this new class of contestants cooking in Portland.
In the second episode, the challenges centered around some aspects Rose City is known for. The quickfire was an ode to short order cooks with the participants creating the guest diners’ favorite breakfast food but with a catch. Once a diner yelled out their desired dish, the first two chefs who buzzed in would make it and then go head-to-head in a duel. The winner was then selected from the victors of each match-up.
Portland is a city known for two popular brews: coffee and beer. It was no surprise then when the Top Chef competitors were divided into two groups and were tasked to make a dish that highlighted one of the drink’s flavors. After they did their planning and shopping, Tom threw them a curveball by declaring they must now form teams of two and make a cohesive dish featuring both coffee and beer flavors.
Let’s see how everyone performed in our Week 2 Power Rankings.

Top Chef airs Thursday nights on Bravo.
