The Swamp Thing #3

The third issue of ‘The Swamp Thing’ is a visual feast that represents a creative team at the top of its game. It’s also a joy for longtime fans of the character, full of intriguing callbacks and new discoveries. (10/10)

Hollow Heart #3

Allor and Tucker are on their way to writing a triumph of a series with Hollow Heart. Issue #3 is a deeply layered, intelligent study of subjectivity, justice, and trauma. Between the art and the writing, every detail feels intentional. Much like the installments before it, Hollow Heart #3 is an outstanding single-issue — one that will inevitably become part of something bigger. (10/10)

Nocterra #3
Words by Scott Snyder. Art by Tony S. Daniel.
The action has truly kicked into high gear as Val’s escape takes a turn for the worst in this addictive post-apocalyptic series. Snyder does a fantastic job building on the dynamics between various characters and the tension continually leaves us on the edge of our seats. Daniel and Morey’s art and colors continue to beautifully capture a gritty post-apocalyptic setting. This is simply another must-read issue. (9/10)

The Good Asian #1

The Good Asian #1 not only starts conversations, but is a memorable and impactful comic. It’s great to see stories that show the progress we’ve made over time and the bridges we still need to cross. Pichetshote and Tefenkgi’s vision rings loud and clear. It’ll be interesting to see how far they push the envelope with future issues. (9/10)

Marauders #20
Words by Gerry Duggan. Art by Stefano Caselli.
This is a nice one-shot story that focuses on the many exploits of Storm and how her teammates on the Marauders perceive her. She’s a warrior, a leader, a surgeon, and a fighter and she’s a sum of all those parts. What makes this comic truly exceptional is how great all the character acting is and how every reaction and expression tells another tale in itself. Marauders #20 is brimming with humanity through storytelling. (9/10)
