In a Q&A on the PlayStation Blog, head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst stated the next God of War game has been pushed from 2021 to next year. Revealed in September of last year, the next God of War is expected to revolve around Ragnarök, events that bring about the fall of the Norse gods and the destruction of the world, essentially. The sequel to 2018’s God of War was expected to arrive at some point in 2021, but neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio had much to share about the game until now.
“[F]or God of War, the project started a little later. So we’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play,” Hulst said. He also indicated the next God of War will release on the PlayStation 4 as well as the PS5, which is great news for those of us who’ve yet to upgrade consoles.
While we’ll have to wait a bit longer for Kratos’ next adventure, Horizon Zero Dawn‘s Aloy will likely return this holiday season in Horizon Forbidden West. “[T]hat isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can,” he said. It too will release on the PS4.
God of War released to stellar reviews all around and its sequel has been hotly anticipated since its release. Watch the teaser for the next game below.
