‘Tacoma FD’ season 3 episode 4 review: Fun with a real life firefighter

UFC fighter and part time firefighter paramedic, Stipe Miocic, pays the Tacoma FD gang a visit.

It’s a given that the gang of Tacoma FD get into all sorts of mischief and antics on every episode. This week, a famous firefighter stops by the station when he’s in town but finds maybe some of the guys aren’t his biggest fan. Elsewhere we dive deeper into the friendship between Terry and Eddie through flashbacks.

Andy, Granny, and Ike have their own sports podcast and they all want to play the role of contrarian. Each spew outlandish hot takes trying to outdo the other. When Stipe Miocic has a fight in the area, the guys say some unflattering things about the UFC fighter. Imagine their surprise when the part-time firefighter paramedic shows up at their door to say hello.

Miocic actually likes to visit the firehouses and hang out in the areas he travels to for his fights. It’s so cringey watching the guys squirm hoping their guest never finds out what they said but also very amusing. The guest is a good sport and having a great time in the role. He’s a larger than life, likable teddy bear outside of the octagon and Andy, Granny, and Ike realize how cool he is. It’s nice how they are able to incorporate the athlete’s real life side job on Tacoma FD and its extra sweet when the crew get their comeuppance. The humor in that scene is contrasted with the seriousness occurring in the foreground.

“How I Met Your Mother” also goes back in time when Terry and Eddie weren’t as friendly. As the episode’s title indicates, it refers to the first date between the Chief and Eddie’s sister, who also happens to be Lucy’s mom. The story is told from three different perspectives and the events differ depending on who is narrating.

The walk down memory lane highlights the love/hate relationship between McConky and Penisi. There isn’t anyone else who could make the other madder but they really do care for each other now. Even back then, Eddie was a mischief maker and we see yet another example of his deviousness. It always enjoyable to hear a good romantic origin story and this is no exception.

There is an amusing gross out humor gag of a shrimp cocktail eating competition and though Eddie won the first battle, Terry still ends up on top because he gets the girl. They run with the gastronomical challenge even further by going into the future and showing how the pair continue to make each other miserable in a way only a best friend can.

This week’s Tacoma FD has some fun with a guest star and sheds some more backstory on Terry and Eddie’s complex friendship.

New episodes of Tacoma FD air Thursday nights on truTV.

Stipe Miocic is a fun guest star.
A nice romantic origin story.
They need to get better wigs for those flashbacks.
