Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 10/25/2021

Get into the Halloween spirit with our Channel Surfing TV picks.

Halloween is a little less than a week away so we decided to get into the spirit with our Channel Surfing TV picks. American Dad! has a specially themed episode for its season 18 finale. The new docuseries, Behind the Monsters, explores some of the biggest horror icons to hit the big screen. Finally, celebrate over half a century of Mystery Inc. with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You Now!.

It’s Alive!

It seems like the latest season of American Dad! has been going on forever since it premiered last April. It didn’t help matters when the last new episode aired over a month ago but the series has been waiting for the upcoming holiday for its finale.

In the episode, Principal Lewis is strongly considering cancelling the science club. In a preemptive strike, Steve decides to use his science knowledge and take matters into his own hands. If the title “Steve’s Franken Out” gives anything away, it’s that he’ll do it in a monstrous way.

The season finale of American Dad! airs tonight on TBS.

A Killer Documentary

There have been many monsters and killers to appear in horror movies throughout the years but only a select few have managed to transcend the medium and make a significant impact in pop culture as a whole. Shudder’s latest docuseries, Behind the Monsters, examines a variety of iconic characters and their place in the genre.

Learn about Candyman, Chucky, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Pinhead as they feature in their own episodes. Interviews with writers, directors, and actors from the films along with experts shed insight on how each became legends in their own right.

Behind the Monsters will premiere Wednesday, October 27, on Shudder.

Honoring a Legend

Scooby-Doo and the gang have been a fixture on television since 1969. In that time there have been different versions of the show but one of the constants is the Great Dane and his friends solving mysteries. This week, a new retrospective one-hour special will air celebrating over 50 years of the recognizable cartoon characters.

In Scooby-Doo, Where Are You Now!, the gang head off to the Warner Bros. Studios to reflect on their favorite cases and history. However, it seems the backlot has a monster of its own so Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo try to solve another case. Expect appearances from celebrities and creatives to share how the different series affected them.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You Now! will air Friday, October 29, on The CW.
