Hasbro adds Rancor Keeper figure in last-ditch effort to save the HasLab Rancor campaign

The deal has been altered, but this time for the better.

On Monday evening, Hasbro made one final overture to fans in an effort to save its tailspinning HasLab Black Series Rancor campaign. If it reaches the minimum funding goal of 9,000 backers/units, every backer will now receive a brand new figure of Malakili, aka the Rancor Keeper.

Here’s Hasbro’s full statement on the matter:

We really appreciate all the feedback we’ve received in an effort to make the HasLab Rancor the best possible dream product. With that, we realize we can’t leave the most dangerous creature, the rancor, roaming the galaxy without its keeper. We will be adding a fully newly-tooled Star Wars: The Black Series Malakili figure to the base offering, funding at 9K units. Uncarded and ready for action, Malakili comes with his unique gaffi stick inspired by Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. This figure is in active development, and we will share renders as part of our backer updates if the project successfully moves into production.

This final additional figure can ONLY be added if we hit our target threshold of 9K backers before the campaign deadline (December 6, 2021). Thank you for your help in shaping this product in real time! The fate of the HasLab Rancor project is in your hands! We hope to bring both the rancor and Malakili to our passionate fans – visit HasbroPulse.com for more details.

Rancor Keeper

This news is exactly what many of us wanted to hear, but is it too little too late? With a little less than six days left before the deadline, the campaign would need to nearly double its current total to be fully funded. Also, the addition of this highly sought after figure still doesn’t keep the $350 price tag from feeling way too steep–especially since none of the other stretch goals are likely to happen.

And whether the Rancor is funded or not, there’s no way this figure wasn’t going to be made/released at some point in the next two years already.

Thankfully, the campaign is at least gaining backers now instead of losing them. Hundreds of backers/units have already been added since the announcement with more sure to come as we close in on December 6. My guess is that the campaign won’t be guaranteed to succeed unless they also add Oola, but this new incentive will be enough to sneak it across the finish line.

Will you be backing the HasLab Black Series Rancor campaign now that the deal has been altered to include Malakili? Let us know in the comments!
