Michael Turner’s first Superman/Batman issue returns in exclusive remastered editions

A remastered Michael Turner classic is coming back in a big way, with three limited-edition versions of his first Superman/Batman issue available through The DC Art of Michael Turner campaign.

Fans of Michael Turner’s legendary DC Comics work will have another reason to keep an eye on the upcoming The DC Art of Michael Turner crowdfunding campaign. Now available to back on Kickstarter.

AIPT can exclusively reveal that the campaign will feature Michael Turner’s first issue of Superman/Batman, presented with a newly remastered cover by longtime collaborator Peter Steigerwald.

The collectible release will be available in three editions:

  • Regular Edition (Limited to 1,000 copies)
  • No Trade Dress Edition (Limited to 750 copies)
  • No Trade Dress Foil Edition (Limited to 750 copies)

The Kickstarter campaign is centered around The DC Art of Michael Turner, a deluxe 200+ page oversized hardcover celebrating the artist’s unforgettable contributions to the DC Universe.

Published by Clover Press in partnership with Aspen Comics, the 9″ x 12″ coffee table art book collects Turner’s acclaimed work featuring Superman, Batman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, The Flash, the Justice League, and many more. The volume also includes an introduction by Ghost Machine editor-in-chief and former DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, alongside reflections from Jeph Loeb, Brad Meltzer, and Dan DiDio.

The campaign will feature a variety of Kickstarter-exclusive collectibles, including a special The DC Art of Michael Turner Ashcan showcasing black-and-white artwork, an exclusive slipcase and dust jacket, and portfolio sets dedicated to some of Turner’s most iconic DC illustrations.

“We are so thrilled to be collaborating with the incredible team at Clover Press again to bring everyone the upcoming artbook, THE DC ART OF MICHAEL TURNER!” said Aspen Comics President Frank Mastromauro. “This Deluxe Edition Hardcover will be the most comprehensive collection of Michael’s DC artwork we have ever put together, ranging from his most popular covers and illustrations to some rarely seen and produced art. After months of preparing and assembling this hardcover, we are extremely excited and honored to bring this book to the fans and keep Michael Turner’s legacy alive and thriving!”

Turner’s impact on DC Comics remains undeniable. After helping define the look of titles like Witchblade, Fathom, and Soulfire, Turner brought his distinctive style to DC in the early 2000s. His work on Superman/Batman helped introduce a new generation of readers to Supergirl and produced some of the most memorable superhero imagery of the era.

“Mike’s work really energized the DCU when he was creating covers and interior work at DC. It really made the projects he chose something extra special and inspired his peers to take things to the next level,” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz. “Bringing so much of his work together in one book is definitely something extra special.”

The new Superman/Batman editions offer collectors a chance to own a key piece of Turner’s DC legacy while celebrating the artist’s enduring influence on comics.
