DC’s Next Level initiative continues to expand this October with The Demon, a new ongoing vision of Jason Blood and Etrigan from acclaimed writer and artist James Harren (Ultramega).
Joining recent Next Level announcements including Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death, Harren’s take leans fully into horror, promising monstrous creatures, supernatural dread, and a fractured Jason Blood struggling to contain the demon within.
The series opens with a world already under siege, though most people can’t see it. Hellish creatures stalk humanity, feeding on souls and leaving behind empty shells. The only person capable of seeing these monsters and sending them back where they belong is Jason Blood.
There’s just one problem.
Jason is no longer the man he once was. Haunted by the memory of a long-dead wizard and tormented by the voice of Etrigan demanding to be unleashed, he’s barely holding himself together as darkness spreads across the world.
As ancient evil begins to stir once again, Jason must decide whether he can trust the very demon bound to his soul before Hell consumes everything.
The series marks another creator-driven addition to DC All In as the publisher continues expanding both its core DC Universe and the Absolute Universe with bold new takes on iconic characters.
The Demon #1 arrives in comic shops on October 7, written and illustrated by James Harren, with colors by Dave Stewart, lettering by Clayton Cowles, and a main cover by Harren. Variant covers will be available from Daniel Warren Johnson, Michael Walsh, Hayden Sherman (Next Level), and John McCrea.
DC also confirmed that additional Next Level announcements are still on the horizon, with upcoming books starring the Teen Titans, Doom Patrol, Legion of Super-Heroes, Deadshot, and more from creators including Skottie Young, Joshua Williamson, Kyle Higgins, Greg Rucka, Jeff Lemire, W. Maxwell Prince, and others.
