Nacon shared a five-minute gameplay video today of Spiders’ upcoming RPG Steelrising, releasing September 8, 2022. It brings elements of the soulslike genre to the French Revolution with an alternate history twist — Louis XVI’s mechanical army reigns supreme over a bloody France. You’ll play as Aegis, “an automaton masterpiece,” as you take on the enemy automatons and attempt to change history. The gameplay video below shows combat against regular enemies, traversal, and a boss fight.
Spiders is known for the action RPGs The Technomancer and Greedfall and their Sherlock Holmes games. In 2019 they were acquired by Nacon, and Steelrising will be their first game published by Nacon.
Steelrising was originally supposed to release sometime in June. The footage shown looks fun, although the animations for Aegis come across as janky and not quite smooth, while the graphics look a bit dated. Hopefully the extra few months will allow Spiders to refine and polish where necessary. Steelrising will launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
