‘The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time’: #75 – #63

Sex and horror.

The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time certainly knows how to start a show. For the second episode in a row, things start off with a movie that divided audiences. Shown in its entirety and peppered with insightful interviews, there is no doubting how frightening the moment is, however. Number 75 on the countdown also sets the tone for what is to come. While there is no doubting the scenes are scary, many of the films listed are a little off the beaten path.

There are some slasher and zombie flicks that deliver straight up horror, but an argument can be made they are more gory than actually terrifying. A folk horror classic is also part of episode three, and it is definitely a worthy addition to this type of countdown. The problem – and this is no fault of the show – is how hard it is to get across its creepy atmosphere. That being said, those who have seen it will remember the feeling of discomfort they felt, while those who have not will want to hunt down the original version.

One of the biggest themes of The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time is the uncomfortable use of sexuality in horror. Two of the most notorious films of all time are listed here. One is a brutal female revenge movie that crosses boundaries even by today’s standards. This episode underscores its notoriety by showing one of its most disgusting scenes. Though it is now highly regarded, the other entry all but ruined the career of its director.

Overall, it is another strong episode that does a good job of mixing the familiar with the lesser known. The combination will have viewers jotting down notes to remind themselves what they need to rewatch and what to check out for the first time. The highlight of the series so far is also found here as Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) talks about a Stephen King film. It underscores just how much of an impact the genre can have on a person and is sure to bring a smile to the faces of everyone who watches.
