Marvel Comics and VeVe launched a silent auction today of art featuring Joe Quesada’s Amazing Spider-Man #850 cover. The art piece is 1 of 1 NFT and will run until Friday December 2nd at 12 PM PT. The starting bid was $3,500 and fans can bid exclusively on the Veve app.
If the art looks familiar, that’s because the penciled art ran as a 1:100 variant for Amazing Spiderman Vol 5 #49 released on Oct 7, 2020.
Marvel and Veve began their partnership in 2021, allowing fans to collect via the Veve Digital Collectibles App, which includes NFT digital collectibles, 3D statues, and digital comic books through “mixed reality” on the app. The app also lets fans share their own curated collections of photos, videos, and virtual showrooms with friends and the fan community using the app’s features.

It’s worth noting NFTs have been rebuked by many as terrible for the environment — according to Wired, the sale of a particular piece of digital artwork consumed as much energy as the studio used to create the artwork in the first place consumes in two years. That said, Veve claims their NFTs are 99% environmentally friendly. You can read more about that here.
