Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of January 4, 2023

Ring in the new year with our celebration of the best comics of the week!

Welcome to the first edition of Fantastic Five in 2023, where we celebrate the very best comics of the week! Publishers kicked off ’23 with a bang, with some top-tier comics, but only five can make it to our venerable list. Let’s take a look at what comics made the cut!

#5: X-Force #36

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of January 4, 2023

Read X-Force #36 for the feel of what the original pitch was going for, as this is the smash-and-grab side of Krakoa. We get a cool covert operation, check-ins with key ongoing plots, and a reminder that something has got to give for various characters.

#4: Mosley #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of January 4, 2023

I’m excited to learn more about the world introduced in Mosley #1. A social commentary about technology taking over our lives, this series offers a new sci-fi world well worth exploring. Mosley has the makings of a personal story worth investing in about the horrors of advancing technology.

#3: X-Men: Red #10

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of January 4, 2023

X-Men: Red #10 pays off a number of running plots from this and other Ewing written series in fittingly epic fashion. A must-read for Storm fans. In short, X-Men: Red #10 is a satisfying and near-flawless issue.

#2: Sonic the Hedgehog #56

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of January 4, 2023

This was a bombastic, fun, visual feast of a book, and serves as a good climax to this arc. I hope whatever is next gives this story the room to breathe it needs. With that said and done, pick this book up and have a good time reading.

#1: Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of January 4, 2023

The final pages giving us an all new team of Invaders is so exciting even if one is Peggy. Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty is a book for Cap fans by Cap fans and you can feel the love these writers have for this series seeping out in their stories. Their writing, combined with Carmen Carnero’s spectacular artwork, makes this title a “can’t miss” every month.
