The biggest new video games releasing the week of 2/27/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

2023 has gotten off to an excellent start for video games, with hits like the Dead Space remake and Wild Hearts releasing alongside indie gems like Season: A Letter to the Future. This week looks to continue that trend with a news soulslike from Team Ninja and an expansion for Destiny 2.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Scars Above (2/28)

Scars Above is a third-person shooter set on a hostile alien world. After investigating a mysterious object floating nearby Earth, scientist Kate is flung across the stars to an extrasolar planet with no idea how she ended up there. Separated from her crewmates, she must study the native monsters and explore the creepy world to try to figure out what the hell just happened. To avoid getting killed, Kate will craft elemental modifications to her fun and gadgets to be used in combat. You can check out our full thoughts on Scars Above in our review tomorrow.

Destiny 2: Lightfall (2/28)

Destiny 2 enters its sixth year of post-launch content updates with Lightfall. It’s the penultimate release for Destiny 2‘s first major saga before The Final Shape caps it off. Lightfall will take players to a new location, the capital city of Neptune, where the Witness is invading with Calus and his Shadow Legion. In terms of gameplay, it’ll add new subclasses for Guardians, new exotic weapons and armor, and the Legendary difficulty for the campaign. While the base game of Destiny 2 is still free to play, the newest expansion will run players $49.99.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (3/3)

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a rare breed in gaming nowadays — it’ll release five months after it was given a release date without any delay. The newest soulslike from Team Ninja, makers of the Nioh games, will take players to third-century China during the Three Kingdoms era, but with a supernatural twist as players will have to battle monsters and demons from Chinese folklore. Being a Team Ninja game, expect a challenging experience where you’ll get your ass handed to you time and again until you preserve due to skill (or luck, let’s be honest). A demo for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available until March 26th and your save data will transfer over to the full game if you decide the first two chapters just ain’t enough.
