This week, Borys Kit and Aaron Couch of the Hollywood Reporter revealed that John Bernthal will reprise the role of Frank Castle/The Punisher for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+.
Bernthal originally portrayed the Punisher in season two of Netflix’s Daredevil series. He then headlined the character’s own series for two seasons, becoming the last Marvel Netflix show to be shut down before every Marvel property on the streamer began moving over to Disney+.
Like the other rebooted (?) franchises, it’s unclear if Bernthal’s version of the Punisher will be a direct continuation of the character from before or something a little more nebulous. It’s also unknown how he’ll fit into the new Daredevil series, which is definitely not following the original 1986 comic run written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli. That said, it honestly wouldn’t feel right for such a massive story to leave out one of the most important characters from the acclaimed series/season — especially since this one will run for a whopping 18 episodes.
Now we just need Marvel Studios to add Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
Daredevil: Born Again is slated to debut in early 2024 exclusively on Disney+.
