Gene Luen Yang’s award-winning graphic novel, American Born Chinese, comes to television. Finally, prepare for a Neighbors reunion as Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne star in Platonic.
Class Is Back in Session
Phil Lord and Christopher Taylor will be making a big splash this summer with the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, the pair is also going back to their roots with the first series they ever created: Clone High.
The original revolved around a high school in the fictional town of Exclamation, USA. The students were clones of historical figures that were raised to have their strengths and abilities exploited by the United States Military. The revival sees OGs Joan of Arc, JFK, Abe Lincoln, and Cleopatra return with an all-new cast of clones including Harriet Tubman, Frida Kahlo, Confucius and more. Expect the gang to manage today’s cultural norms along with the regular teen dramas.
The first two episodes of Clone High release Tuesday, May 23, on Max.
Finding Your Inner Hero
American Born Chinese is a ground breaking graphic novel that explores identity and coming of age. After it was first released, it won the Michael L. Printz Award, the Eisner Award, along with earning other prestigious accolades. Now it is receiving a TV adaptation.
The story revolves around a regular teenage boy named Jin Wang who is has difficulties managing both his student and personal life. Everything changes when he makes a new friend and becomes entangled in a war involving the gods of Chinese mythology.
Stream the entire first season of American Born Chinese beginning Wednesday, May 24, on Disney+.
BFFs
As you grow older, sometimes you lose touch with those you were once close with. In Platonic, former best friends reconnect as they approach midlife after a lengthy falling out. They soon realize why they got along so well even though all the other parts of their lives begin to crumble.
The series brings together the director and stars of Neighbors. Nick Stoller is co-creator with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne serving as the leads. Luke MacFarlane, Tre Hale, Carlo Gallo, and Andrew Lopez round out the main cast.
The first three episodes of Platonic premiere Wednesday, May 24, on Apple TV+.
