Kelly Thompson adds Zealot to ‘Birds of Prey’ team lineup

This Fall, the ‘Birds of Prey’ lineup includes Black Canary, Batgirl, Big Barda, and…Zealot!

Writer Kelly Thompson has been taking over the comics news airwaves this week with the news that she’s writing a new Birds of Prey series this fall. Joining her is artists Leonardo Romero and Jordie Bellaire, with a team lineup that includes Black Canary, Batgirl, Big Barda, and…Zealot!

As Thompson put it:

But who will do the cutting?

Zealot.

Zealot will do the cutting.

Unfamiliar with Zealot? The character made their debut in 1992 in WildC.A.T.S. #1, which shows DC Comics is all-in on integrating the Wildstorm universe into their main books. We already knew that, of course, with Grifter making the rounds, as well as DC Comics celebrating the 1990s with the Wildstorm 30th anniversary special last December.

Thompson also shared an image of Zealot, as drawn by Romero and Bellaire.

Created by Jim Lee and Brandon Choi, Wikipedia states: Zealot is a long-lived warrior belonging to a nearly-immortal ancient alien race known as the Kherubim, and is a member of the Coda Sisterhood, a group of Amazonian-like/ninja-like warriors from planet Khera.

Sounds rad!

There’s just one more member of the team to be revealed, and likely Thompson will show it off sometime tomorrow via her Twitter account.
