Our latest batch of Channel Surfing TV picks include an alien spy thriller, a culinary dramedy, and kaiju. Nick Fury returns to prevent renegade Skrulls from taking over Earth in Secret Invasion. Watch an institution transition into a new restaurant in The Bear. Finally, danger is around every corner when you visit Skull Island.

Friend or Foe?

Last we saw Nick Fury, he was on sabbatical in space during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the upcoming series Secret Invasion, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. learns of a new threat that brings him back to Earth.

A faction of Skrulls invade our planet in hopes of taking over. Since they can shapeshift into anyone, you can’t tell who is who they say they are. Fury must turn to old allies including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has settled in on his adopted world.

Stream the series premiere of Secret Invasion beginning Wednesday, June 21, on Disney+.

A Change in Direction

The Bear followed an acclaimed young chef returning to his hometown of Chicago to help run the family sandwich shop after the tragic death of his brother. Though his transition from fine dining to his new business is rough, he does find a new family amongst his staff.

The second season will see the crew take the old sandwich shop in a new direction by making the place a culinary destination. In an interview with Variety, co-showrunner Joanna Calo said that the new season “will home in on hospitality, taking care of others and making the cast’s lives a bit bigger. At the center, Carmy will still be reeling from his brother’s death and his own demons in the sophomore season, too.”

The entire second season of The Bear drops Thursday, June 22, on Hulu.

A Dangerous Island Getaway

Superheroes from both DC and Marvel have each created their own shared universe that encompass both television and film. Why can’t other franchises do the same. The MonsterVerse, which involve kaiju such as Godzilla and King Kong, is expanding into TV with the adult animated adventure Skull Island.

A group of young explorers searching for someone, ignore the warnings and soon find themselves stranded on the titular location. They must survive an entire island of ferocious creatures including the Eighth Wonder of the World, King Kong.

The first season of Skull Island releases Thursday, June 22, on Netflix.
