The pop culture event of the year, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is next week. Fans are counting off the days until they can immerse themselves in all things television, film, video games, literature, and of course, comics. There will be tons to do from panels to signings to shopping the exhibit hall and more.
But did you know there is as much fun outside the convention as there is inside? That is because studios host activations promoting their current and upcoming projects giving attendees unique activities and photo-ops related to their favorite franchises. We take a look at five television related activations you can visit during SDCC, and you don’t need a badge to get in.
Paramount+ The Lodge
We knew earlier this year that SDCC would be a stop on the Paramount+ The Lodge tour. The activation will be held at Happy Does (340 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101) in the Gaslamp. It will be open to the public beginning July 24 from 6–10pm, July 25-27 from 12–10pm daily, and July 28 from 10am–7pm.
The different stations include:
- Create a Custom T-Shirt on a Star Trek Starship
- Olfactory Atelier Inspired by Ghosts
- Solve a Case for Criminal Minds: Evolution Behavioral Analysis Unit
- If’s Cozy Ferris Wheel Photo Op
- Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles–Themed Pizza Parlor
- Jellyspotting in Bikini Bottom
- Ink Master Tattoo Parlor
- BRED2BUCK Saloon from Tulsa King
Hulu Animayhem’s Factory
Get ready to enter the second dimension in the Hulu Animayhem’s Factory, located next to the San Diego Convention Center in the Bayfront’s parking lot. It runs starting July 25 from 11:30am-7pm, July 26-27 from 9:30am–7pm daily, and July 28 from 9:30am–5pm. Fans of all ages can interact with popular shows and take home themed memorabilia.
The different stations include:
- Tour the Slurm Factory from Futurama (Hulu Original/20th Television Animation)
- Cutawayland Storage with Family Guy (FOX/20th Television Animation)
- Enjoy a Sweet Pick-Me-Up from The Simpsons “LardLad Donut Factory” (FOX/Disney+/20th Television Animation)
- Put Roger the Alien from American Dad Back Together at the CIA Lab (FOX/20th Television Animation)
- Sing Your Heart Out at “Bob’s Record-O-Matic” from Bob’s Burgers (FOX/20th Television Animation)
- Take a “Goobler Stress Test” with Solar Opposites (Hulu Original/20th Television Animation)
- Find the “Bonsai Master’s Sword” from Hit Monkey (Hulu Original/Marvel)
- Take a Break with The Great North, Krapopolis, and Grimsburg
Adult Swim’s Pirate Parrrty
Adult Swim on the Green will take over their familiar spot outside the San Diego Convention Center (5th Avenue Landing and Convention Way). This year is pirate themed, and the first 1,000 attendees to join in 1pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will receive an exclusive giveaway.
In addition, the summer kicks off the “Anime-rican” tour in support of the new series Rick and Morty: The Anime with SDCC as the firs stop. The Mortymobile will set up shop at the Pirate Parrrty for a photo-op while the Rickmobile will roam around the Gaslamp with special giveaways. For more details visit here.
Special evening events include:
- AEW x Adult Swim “Battle for the Booty” Wrestling Tournament – Join a collection of AEW wrestlers who will face-off in a tag team tournament against famous Adult Swim faces for a no-holds-barred event as each competitor vies for the chance to win the “Battle for the Booty” title. Thursday (7/25) at 7:30pm
- Adult Swim’s Night of New – Comic-Con attendees will be the first to experience a collection of brand-new Adult Swim series at this special screening event featuring the full-length premiere episodes of “Common Side Effects,” “Rick and Morty: The Anime,” “Invincible Fight Girl,” and “Women Wearing Shoulder Pads” alongside more never-before-seen Adult Swim content. The screening will also be livestreamed in real-time on Adult Swim’s YouTube Channel. Don’t miss your chance! Friday (7/26) at 7:30pm
- Fun with Zach and Michael – Fresh off the finale of the hit series’ second season, join “SMILING FRIENDS” co-creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel for a special live-draw and fan Q&A event. Saturday (7/27) at 7:30pm
Those About to Die: The Chariot Race
Peacock’s epic historical drama, Those About to Die premieres July 18. The next week at SDCC, go back in time and relive the glory of the Roman Empire in the Those About to Die: The Chariot Race activation located at 170 Sixth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. It runs beginning July 25 from 12pm-6:30pm, July 26-27 from 10am-6:30pm, and July 28 from 9:30am-4pm. Guests will be divided into one of five factions and compete against each other where you whip a pair of reins to power your team’s chariot to victory.

#FXSDCC will be located in its usual SDCC location at the Hilton Bayfront lawn east of the San Diego Convention Center. It opens July 25 from 11am-6pm, July 26-27 from 10am-6pm, and July 28 from 11am-4pm.
The different stations include:
- The Bear pop-up restaurant with daily chef’s specials featuring exclusive merchandise
- What We Do in the Shadows Staten Island residence with spooky photo-op
- It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Irish bar photo-op
- FX Fearless Hellevator through 12 chilling moments from the American Horror Story universe
