‘Laura Kinney: Wolverine’ will make you cry and laugh at inappropriate moments

Writer Erica Schultz talks ‘Laura Kinney: Wolverine’ at the Women of Marvel panel during San Diego Comic-Con.

Laura Kinney has taken a prominent role in the X-Men: From the Ashes relaunch, appearing in the recently-released NYX series. Now she is stepping out and taking center stage in her own solo adventure, Laura Kinney: Wolverine.

The series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con where writer Erica Schultz shared what few details she could. Kinney is in a reflective space after meeting her clone, Talon. She ponders whether she is fated to be that person or whether she can forge her own path.

Schultz teased interesting guest stars in Laura Kinney: Wolverine. In addition, she said, “There will be laughing, there will be crying. There will be laughing at inappropriate moments. There will be crying for the way you feel for her and the way you feel for other characters. I might get you to actually empathize with a character you might think, ‘oh god, why am I hoping this person turns out okay?’”

One interesting behind the scenes tidbit came up during the discussion. Because the editorial team is all male, Schultz made an effort to ensure the creative team would be composed of all female or non-binary people. As previously reported, Giada Belviso would provide art and Elena Casagrande would do covers. It was announced at the Women of Marvel panel that Rachelle Rosenberg would do colors and Ariana Maher would be the letterer.

Laura Kinney: Wolverine #1 launches December 11, 2024.
