Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 01/20/2025

We have a thrilling selection for this week’s Channel Surfing TV picks.

We have a thrilling selection for this week’s Channel Surfing TV picks. Dive into a mathematic conspiracy in Prime Target. The Night Agent arrives for a new season. Then, Michelle Yeoh returns to Star Trek and stars in her own film, Star Trek: Section 31

It’s in the Numbers

In Prime Target, a young postgraduate named Edward Brooks searches for a pattern involving prime numbers. If successful, he would have the key to all computers across the world. Other interested parties either want to stop or exploit Brooks’ work. He, along with NSA agent Taylah Sanders, soon find themselves in a dangerous conspiracy.

The series is created by Steven Thompson. It stars Leo Woodall and Quintessa Swindell in the lead roles with cast members Stephen Rea, David Morrissey, Martha Plimpton, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jason Flemyng, Harry Lloyd, Ali Suliman, Fra Fee, and Joseph Mydell.

The first two episodes of Prime Target drop Wednesday, January 22, on Apple TV+.

A Full Agent

When we last left The Night Agent, Peter Sutherland and his colleagues were able to save the day from the bad guys. As a result of the success, Peter becomes a full agent into the secret organization, Night Action.

In season two, Peter begins his training to become a Night Agent. This causes his relationship with Rose Larkin to be on shaky ground as his new job takes him across the globe while she heads to Silicon Valley to reestablish her career. Meanwhile, a new threat develops and Peter must flush out a mole who has turned against the county.

The entire second season of The Night Agent releases Thursday, January 23, on Netflix.

The Dark Side of Star Trek

Section 31 is the intelligence and defense wing of the United Federation of Planets (UFP) that embarks on covert operations. The organization first appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and has played main roles in episodes of the other series. This week, it will take center stage in its own film.

Star Trek: Section 31 features Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), who became a fan favorite character on Star Trek: Discovery. Georgiou becomes the secret division’s newest member where she helps protect the UFP. Hopefully the good she does helps her come to terms with the sins of her past back in the Mirror Universe.

Star Trek: Section 31 premieres Friday, January 24, on Paramount+.
