Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ending spoilers follow.
After Spider-Man 2 ended with Peter Parker fully giving the responsibility of protecting New York as Spider-Man to Miles Morales and enjoy some time as Peter, players rightfully wondered if the OG Spider-Man would take up the webshooters in the eventual sequel. Speaking with The Direct at MultiCon over the weekend, Yuri Lowenthal, the voice behind Peter Parker, hinted that we should expect Peter to don his spider-jammies in Spider-Man 3. “Yes, Peter is not gone. He will be a part of the next game and he won’t be relegated to the couch, I promise.”
While Lowenthal admitted “there are very few things that I can say about this game,” dishing out this little nugget allows fans to breath a bit of a sigh of relief. Spider-Man 2 left open a ton of possibilities for where the series could go next, including the question of if Peter was really retired or not, especially as Insomniac has set up Miles to be their main Spider-Man. “[I]t felt like such a natural conclusion; I’m not sure when specifically we decided to do that, but it always felt like the only way the game could end,” narrative director Ben Arfmann told Gizmodo after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dropped.
We still don’t know when to expect Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, or if it will even release during the PS5 generation. Plans have certainly shifted after the 2023 Insomniac leaks as there will be no Spider-Man 2 DLC and the potential Venom spin-off still feels very much up in the air. Regardless, Spider-Man 3 can’t come soon enough.
