Another week on Top Chef brings another week of our Power Rankings. This time, we saw even more of a shuffle since the most recent episode involved a double elimination. Who was sent home and who prevailed?
The contestants drew knives to separate them into teams. Each team was assigned an ethnic cuisine, taking advantage of the rich cultural diversity of Toronto. In lieu of a quickfire, the teams worked the line at a local restaurant to help familiarize themselves with their particular food. For the elimination challenge, they had to create a dish inspired by their time on the line at their ethnic eatery. Each duo had a budget of $1000 to create enough dishes for the judges and 150 guests.
The breakdown of teams and their cuisines are as followed: Henry and Shuai with Filipino, a returning Bailey and Tristen with Greek, Lana and Vinny with Indian, Massimo and Paula with Caribbean, Corwin and Kat with Portuguese, and Katianna and César with Thai. The losing team would be eliminated, and the odds were even more stacked with Bailey and Tristen both having immunity. The guest judge knew a little bit about competing on Top Chef. Sara Bradley, chef and proprietor of Freight House, was on season 16 and season 20.
The eliminated team were the next contestants in Last Chance Kitchen. They were given 30 minutes to prepare their dish, but there was a catch. The first 10 minutes was used for prep, but they didn’t know what they were prepping for. After the 10 minutes, Tom brought a surprise protein. Another catch was once the protein was revealed, the chefs couldn’t use their knives and could only go back to the pantry for pots and pans. That meant they needed all their ingredients collected and chopped beforehand.
Let’s take a look at this week’s Power Rankings.
