Prey revitalized a declining Predator franchise when it was released in 2022. It was the first to take place in the past and featured indigenous warriors fighting off the titular antagonist. Due to its success, the universe is expanding starting with the upcoming movie, Predator: Killer of Killers.
The original animated feature is an anthology story that takes place in three different eras. The first follows a Viking raider with her son set on a quest for revenge. The next centers around a ninja in Feudal Japan who betrays a group of samurai during a violent succession. The last takes place in World War II where a pilot investigates a possible threat in the sky. Each finds themselves in the crosshairs of a Predator.
The teaser trailer looks intense with the bloody action and violence you would expect from the franchise. It’s an interesting take looking at such a diverse group of characters and settings, but Prey helped set the stage to expand into different cultures. The animation also brings something new while also allowing the creators to push the envelope a little more.
The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg with Josh Wassung, from animation company The Third Floor, serving as co-director. It is written by Micho Robert Rutare and story by Trachtenberg and Rutare, based on characters created by Jim Thomas and John Thomas. The producers are John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, p.g.a., Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, p.g.a., with Lawrence Gordon, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas, and Stefan Grube as executive producers.
Predator: Killer of Killers premieres June 6 exclusively on Hulu.
