Hideo Kojima, the brilliant mind behind Death Stranding and Metal Gear, said in an interview with Edge Magazine that he left his assistant with a USB stick filled with ideas for future games to give Kojima Productions after he passes. He explained that he was anxious about what would happen to his company after his death and the USB stick is “kind of like a will.”
Kojima revealed that he made this decision after he fell ill during the pandemic. Facing possible death, not being able to work and watching people around him pass away made him anxious about what would happen to his company. He stated, “I was thinking, ‘Wait, how many years do I have left to make game or a film?’ Perhaps I have ten years?”

Hideo Kojima will continue to create games after death
Although he has since recovered from his illness the anxiety understandably remained. So, he put together a list of new ideas for games, allowing him to provide Kojima Productions with a sense of direction after he’s gone. And, for the time being, Kojima will continue to create new games, further growing his presence in the video game industry.
Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2 will be released on June 26, 2025.
