Skybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Hasbro, have revealed the new creative team behind the hit Transformers series, and it’s a big one. Writer Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and artist Dan Mora (Superman, Justice League Unlimited) are officially onboard to launch a brand-new chapter with Transformers #25, arriving in comic shops on October 8, 2025.
The oversized anniversary issue will also include a short story from Kirkman and current series artist Jorge Corona, serving as both a celebration of the series’ second year and a perfect jumping-on point for new readers. Kirkman joins the existing team of colorist Mike Spicer and letterer Rus Wooton, bringing fresh energy to the heart of the Energon Universe.
“I’ve been so invested in this series since the beginning,” said Kirkman. “When Daniel Warren Johnson’s run ended, I couldn’t stay on the sidelines. It’s an honor to be part of these characters’ legacy.”
Dan Mora echoed the excitement: “Drawing my favorite Autobots and Decepticons takes me right back to my childhood. I hope to add my own spark to their story.”
The new storyline promises major shifts for both Autobots and Decepticons. As Optimus Prime looks to defend Earth, he’ll face unexpected threats from within—and the fate of the Decepticons remains a looming mystery.
Executive Editor Ben Abernathy called the pairing of Kirkman and Mora “a dream come true,” teasing big revelations ahead as the Energon Universe expands alongside titles like Void Rivals and G.I. Joe.
Transformers #25 features a massive lineup of variant covers by artists including David Nakayama, Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, Kael Ngu, Jae Lee, and Dan Mora, along with collectible blank sketch editions and specialty foil and die-cut variants.
The next evolution of Transformers begins October 8. Get ready for an era that’s truly more than meets the eye.
