Love, music, and a little supernatural chaos are coming to Riverdale this winter. Archie Comics has announced Archie’s Valentine’s Spectacular (One-Shot), the publisher’s annual celebration of romance, featuring a brand-new story by Holly G! that reimagines the Archie gang in a colorful, K-Pop–inspired universe.
In the story, titled “Spirit Slayers in Love,” Betty, Veronica, Sabrina, and Josie form an A-Pop band (managed, of course, by Archie) in a dazzling alternate reality fueled by music and joy. But their harmony is soon tested when a dark spirit of envy targets the group, sending his alluring creation, Shinji, to tempt them into chaos.
“I’m super excited to share the new story for Archie Comics I wrote, ‘Spirit Slayers in Love,’ inspired by the animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters,” said Holly G! “After creating a pin-up for the upcoming Garden State Comic Fest, I was thrilled when Archie asked me to take on this project! “My story takes place in an alternate universe — the A-POP Universe! — a colorful, joyful world fueled by music! There, Sabrina, Betty, Veronica, and Josie are part of an A-Pop band spreading joy and harmony through their songs. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I wanted to highlight the love between our heroes and their fans. But watch out — there’s also an evil spirit of envy who tries to corrupt them with his charming creation, Shinji. Thankfully, one girl in the band is totally unshakeable! Can you guess which one? Writing this story has been SO much fun, and I do hope to continue telling stories in the A-Pop Universe!!!”
With vibrant art by Steven Butler, inks by Lily Butler, colors by Glenn Whitmore, and letters by Jack Morelli, Archie’s Valentine’s Spectacular blends romance, magic, and music in classic Archie fashion — with a twist. The one-shot will also feature additional stories filled with love, laughs, and Riverdale charm, plus covers by Dan Parent and a retro variant by Dan DeCarlo and Alison Flood.
