What happens when your patients are ghosts, cryptids, and creatures of legend, but their problems feel painfully familiar? That’s the question at the heart of Parapsychologist, a new original graphic novel from Hugo Award-nominated writer Taki Soma and co-writer Mark Schey, with vibrant art by Cat Farris.
Launching digitally March 31 via Comixology Originals, the book blends comedy, mystery, and family drama into a story about a therapist trying to keep it all together while everything around him gets stranger by the day. His patients may be supernatural, but the real challenge might be at home.
Ahead of release, we’re breaking down the key players with exclusive character bios to help you get acquainted with the world of Parapsychologist.

Ron Richards
Dr. Ron Richards is the center of the storm, even if he is not fully aware of it. A licensed therapist with an unusual client list, Ron treats paranormal beings as if they were any other patient. The difference is, their issues come with claws, fur, and occasionally existential dread that spans centuries.
Ron is earnest, committed, and constantly overwhelmed. He wants to help everyone, which makes it hard to help himself. As his practice grows stranger, his work life balance slips further out of reach.

Claire Richards
Claire is Ron’s wife, a psychiatrist, and someone who chose a more traditional path in medicine. She believes in what she does and expects results, which makes Ron’s career choices a point of tension.
She loves her family, but her pragmatism can come off as judgment. Whether she is right about Ron’s choices is an open question, and one that quietly shapes their relationship.

Noah Richards
Noah is the oldest child in the Richards household, and he feels stuck. A young adult struggling to find direction, he is dealing with hearing loss while also trying to figure out who he is supposed to be.
He is quiet, withdrawn, and unsure of where he fits, both in the world and within his own family. His journey is one of searching for purpose while feeling left behind.
Alexa Richards
Alexa is the youngest, a high schooler who seems disconnected on the surface. She carries herself with a kind of indifference, but that may be a defense more than a personality.
With two high achieving parents focused on understanding others, Alexa is still waiting to be understood herself. Her story hints at what happens when emotional attention is in short supply at home.

Harper
If you want to see Dr. Richards, you go through Harper first. She runs the front desk with confidence, attitude, and zero patience for nonsense.
Harper is sharp and observant, and she takes her role seriously. Beneath the sarcasm is someone who wants more for herself, including a future in psychotherapy. Just do not expect her to admit that easily.

Huey
Huey is a fellow psychology student and the kind of person who believes money can solve most problems. He leans into charm and status, surrounding himself with people who benefit from his wealth.
He is confident, performative, and perhaps more insecure than he lets on. Whether he grows beyond that remains to be seen.

Bigfoot
Yes, that Bigfoot. And yes, even therapists need therapists.
Bigfoot serves as Ron’s counselor, offering guidance from an office that is not exactly easy to reach. Their sessions take place in the wild, which adds a layer of inconvenience to Ron’s attempts at self reflection.
Still, Bigfoot is effective, grounded, and a reminder that everyone needs help, no matter how unusual their circumstances may be.
Werewolf
The werewolf is a walking spiral of anxiety. Mention a symptom and he is convinced he has it.
He is a hypochondriac taken to supernatural extremes, constantly seeking reassurance and treatment. His sessions with Ron are chaotic, unpredictable, and often hilarious, even as they highlight real struggles with mental health.
With a cast that blends the absurd with the relatable, Parapsychologist builds a world where monsters deal with the same insecurities, fears, and family tensions as anyone else.
The result is a story that leans into humor while never losing sight of its emotional core.
Parapsychologist arrives March 31 on Comixology Originals.
