#5: Magik & Colossus #3

‘Magik & Colossus’ #3 keeps up the momentum

At three issues, we’re officially more than halfway through the Magik & Colossus series, and if there was ever a book to get a surprise re-up it would be this one. While I’m a little concerned we won’t have enough time to effectively deal with the threat of the The Immortal in the next two issues, Allen and Peralta are truly working some great magic on this series, and their look into how different and similar Illyana and Piotr are has made this one of the strongest Marvel titles on the shelves. While I’m bummed we only have two issues left, I’m at least happy we can savor the experience a little longer.

#4: G.I. Joe #21

‘G.I. Joe’ #21 is a near-perfect homage to an iconic issue

G.I. Joe #21 pays homage to one of the most iconic moments in G.I. Joe history, while putting its own unique spin on the concept. It also builds on the wonderful work in the Scarlett miniseries, and now that Scarlett’s in the fold, I hope to see more ninja badassery on her part.

#3: Nightwing #137

‘Nightwing’ #137 delivers a raw, emotional story

This is a great issue that shows one of DC’s most popular character’s life continues to be on an intense downward spiral. So, if you miss Crash Out Nightwing, this issue is for you!

#2: Absolute Batman #19

‘Absolute Batman’ #19 is relentless

Absolute Batman #19 keeps the pedal down with relentless pacing and big swings that continue to redefine this universe. Scott Snyder packs the issue with major developments, from Scarecrow’s disturbing debut to shifting alliances and escalating stakes across Gotham. Nick Dragotta matches that energy with inventive layouts and striking imagery that carry both tension and spectacle. It is a bold, crowded issue, but one that rarely loses its grip thanks to confident execution and a clear sense of direction.
