Meet the New Jersey killer who was supposed to be a star in ‘Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy’ #1

‘Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy’ marks the first spinoff following the end of season one.

Tyler Boss and Dylan Burnett are teaming up for a new Exquisite Corpses spinoff centered on Rascal Randy, the unsettling bunny-mascot killer. The five-issue limited series, produced by Tiny Onion, explores the character’s origin and arrives this July from Image Comics.

“From the moment I saw the full cast of killers for Exquisite Corpses, I, like most discerning readers, knew Randy would be the winner of the first season’s game,” said Boss. “Now while I still can’t say whether we’ve been proven correct or not, I can say the story Dylan and I have created for everyone’s favorite furry fiend is as sweet and cuddly as a porcupine.”

Burnett added: “Bullies, homework, crushes, solving a string of brutal and bizarre murders perpetrated by a weirdo in a giant rabbit costume… Ah, to be young again.”

The story is set in Aurora Springs, New York, a quiet town with a disturbing legacy. It is known as the birthplace of Rascal Randy, not the person behind the mask, but the character itself. The man who wears the suit fades into the background. The persona is what matters, and it takes on a life of its own the moment the mask goes on.

Before everything went wrong, Rascal Randy was meant to be something else entirely. The character was once positioned to become a major animated icon, but a mix of greed and tragedy sent things in a darker direction. This series digs into that shift, revealing how the mascot became something far more dangerous.

Set before the first season of Exquisite Corpses, the series shows how Randy became New Jersey’s pick for America’s deadliest game. As chaos hits Aurora Springs, the story begins to uncover the history behind the character and the violence tied to it.

The first issue will feature a strong lineup of variant covers from artists including Javier Pulido, Riley Rossmo, Brett Bean, and Michael Walsh. Walsh’s cover will be polybagged and include a collectible trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game, which launches on Kickstarter in May.

The franchise continues to expand beyond this series, with additional spinoffs already planned, including Fox Mask Killer and Lone Gunman, along with an anthology one-shot titled Book of the Dead. A second season, a feature film adaptation, and a tabletop card game are also on the way.

Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy marks the first spinoff following the end of season one. The series is colored by Jordie Bellaire and lettered by Becca Carey.
