Marvel unleashes ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #1000 with all-star creators and a shocking new villain

This September, Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, John Romita Jr. change Peter Parker’s life forever in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1000.

Teased yesterday, Marvel Comics has revealed its big plans as Spider-Man reaches the coveted #1000th issue. Following Detective Comics and Action Comics, this is only the third time a major superhero has reached 1,000 issues. This September, Marvel Comics celebrates the 1000th issue of Amazing Spider-Man, and the publisher is aiming to make it one of its biggest releases ever.

Amazing Spider-Man #1000 will be anchored by a major story from Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz. The issue will wrap up key threads from their current run while setting the stage for what comes next. Beyond that, the oversized release will include additional anniversary stories from a wide range of creators, mixing longtime Spider-Man veterans with newer voices. The lineup includes John Romita Jr., Frank Miller, Peach Momoko, Stuart Immonen, Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Slott, J.M. DeMatteis, Patrick Gleason, Marcos Martin, and Noah Hawley, who is making his Marvel Comics debut.

The main cover pairs John Romita Jr. with Paolo Rivera for the first time, while a variant by Larraz offers a first look at a brand-new villain named Ravage.

The issue will see Spider-Man facing one of his toughest challenges yet, as Ravage enters the scene with a power that could reshape Peter Parker’s understanding of himself and his legacy. The story is positioned as a deeply personal conflict that will have lasting consequences moving forward.

“Writing AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1000 has stirred up a lot of emotions for me, but gratitude is chief among them,” Kelly shared. “It’s a true honor to have the opportunity to contribute to Spidey’s legacy with a huge milestone like this. And special bonus – we get to introduce a new villain?! Amazing. Ravage is layered and complex and mysterious, and I can’t wait to unleash him on the readers with this monumental issue!”

Amazing Spider-Man #1000 arrives this September, with more details on the issue’s creators and story still to come.
