Mike Mignola is revisiting the world of Hellboy in Hell with a brand-new two-issue miniseries, Hellboy in Hell: Nothing but Blood.
The series reunites Mignola with Hellboy while introducing acclaimed French artist Cyrille Pomès to the Hellboy Universe. Pomès will handle artwork and lettering, with colors by longtime collaborator Dave Stewart. The first issue will feature a variant cover by Mignola, while the second issue includes a variant by Marc Riou. Pomès provides the main covers for both issues.
The new story takes readers back to one of the most important periods in Hellboy’s history. Set after the death of Satan and the fall of Pandemonium in Hellboy in Hell #8, the story follows Hellboy as he encounters a young woman fleeing winged creatures during an uprising against Hell’s ruling demons. As expected, appearances can be deceiving in the underworld.
Mignola explained that the project came together after discovering Pomès’ work and wanting to collaborate with him.
“Yes, I too thought Hellboy in Hell was a closed book. But a while back I discovered the work of Cyrille Pomés and instantly fell in love with it,” said Mike Mignola. “We actually met and when he said he’d like to do a Hellboy story, well, how could I say no to that? I still had half an idea for a Hell story rattling around in my head and invited him to flesh that out, so now what you have is a true collaboration on the story and his absolutely wonderful art and storytelling. I’m so happy to introduce this guy to the American comic book audience.”
Originally published between 2012 and 2016, Hellboy in Hell remains one of the defining chapters of the franchise. The series explored Hellboy’s lineage, introduced members of his extended family, and expanded the mythology of Hell in ways that continue to shape the larger universe.
For Pomès, the opportunity to work with Mignola carries personal significance.
“When I first saw compliments from a certain Mike Mignola appearing on some of my Facebook posts, I thought it was a joke—or a namesake. But it really was the artist whose early work had such a profound impact on me as a teenager, and whose evolution I’ve followed with awe ever since.” added Cyrille Pomés. “During a trip to the States, I made a stop in Los Angeles where Mike was living at the time and took a chance: would he like to write a script for me featuring his legendary Hellboy? His response still resonates with me today: ‘It would be an honor.’”

With a fresh creative partnership and a return to one of Hellboy’s most beloved settings, Hellboy in Hell: Nothing but Blood offers readers another journey into the strange, tragic, and endlessly fascinating underworld that helped define the character.
