IDW Dark announces new ‘Smile’ and ‘A Quiet Place’ comic book series

‘Any Given Smile’ and ‘A Quiet Place: Rising Tides’ bring fresh stories inspired by the hit horror franchises to IDW Dark this fall.

IDW Dark is bringing two major horror franchises to comics this fall with all-new stories inspired by Paramount Pictures’ Smile and A Quiet Place.

The first title, Any Given Smile, launches in September as a five-issue miniseries from Eisner Award-nominated writer Stephanie Williams and artist Pablo Collar, with colors by Triona Farrell and letters by Ariana Maher.

Set in 1995, the story unfolds against the backdrop of the American Arena League football championship game. As the Sharks prepare for the biggest event in league history, a backup quarterback finds himself under mounting pressure from fans, teammates, and dangerous gambling debts. When a wave of suicides shocks the community, a determined sports journalist begins investigating possible connections to the championship game. Her search leads into a web of mystery involving the terrifying Smile Entity, whose disturbing visions threaten everyone caught in its path.

The debut issue features a main cover by Ashley Witter, along with variant covers by Jock, Martin Simmonds, and Joëlle Jones. A trading card variant set by Pablo Collar will also be available.

IDW Dark returns to the world of A Quiet Place in November with A Quiet Place: Rising Tides, a five-issue series from writer Declan Shalvey and artist Luke Sparrow. Colin Craker provides colors, with lettering by Jodie Troutman.

The story follows Grace, a young woman who travels to the Florida Keys to reconnect with her estranged father. Before she can find the answers she seeks, the alien invasion that devastated civilization begins. Stranded on a rundown houseboat, Grace and her aging father struggle to survive in a world where the slightest sound can attract deadly predators.

As supplies dwindle and her father’s medical needs become increasingly urgent, new dangers emerge. The creatures hunting along the shoreline are adapting, and a powerful hurricane is approaching from the horizon.

The new series join a growing lineup of horror titles under the IDW Dark banner, which includes licensed properties such as Event Horizon, The Twilight Zone, and Sleepy Hollow, alongside original hits like Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, The Exorcism at 1600 Penn, and 30 Days of Night.

IDW also plans to celebrate the imprint with its upcoming IDW Goes Dark variant cover program, which will spread horror-themed artwork across the publisher’s line this October.
