Bit Bot has officially revealed the first screenshots from the upcoming Final Boss video game, an adaptation of Tyler Kirkham’s hit Image Comics series that combines a retro side-scrolling beat ’em up with cinematic 3D fighting game action.
Announced ahead of San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the game is being developed by Bit Bot and its in-house studio, Mecanimal Games, with Kirkham serving as a key creative collaborator. Fans can also wishlist the title on Steam beginning today.

Created, written, and illustrated by Tyler Kirkham, Final Boss quickly became one of Image Comics’ breakout hits, with its debut issue selling out at the distributor level and earning a second printing shortly after release. The series follows Tommy Brazen, an ex-street brawler turned enhanced mercenary whose search for answers uncovers a much larger conspiracy tied to his past.
Kirkham says the adaptation stays true to the comic’s roots while expanding its world.
“Final Boss was born from my love of classic arcade games, fighting games, action movies, and comics,” Kirkham said. “Working directly with Bit Bot allows us to translate that DNA into a video game that feels authentic to the comic while expanding the world in exciting new ways.”
The game supports one to four players in local co-op and begins as a pixel-art side-scrolling brawler inspired by arcade classics. Players battle through waves of enemies before each stage culminates in an animated comic-style transition into a one-on-one 3D boss fight.
According to Bit Bot Creative Director Frank O’Connor, the gameplay structure mirrors the comic itself.
“At its heart, Final Boss is about escalation,” O’Connor said. “The gameplay mirrors the structure of the story. What begins as a cooperative street fight gradually narrows into a personal showdown. It’s a format that lets us combine two beloved genres while remaining completely faithful to the spirit of the comic.”
O’Connor previously served as Franchise Creative Director on Halo and Perfect Dark. He joins Kirkham alongside Bit Bot co-owner Joshua Viola, while the game’s original soundtrack is being composed by musician Celldweller.
Viola says the source material naturally lent itself to an interactive adaptation.
“One of the things that immediately excited us about Final Boss is that the comic already feels like a video game,” Viola said. “Tyler created a world that celebrates arcade brawlers, fighting games, comics, and action cinema. Rather than simply adapting those ideas, we’re building a game around them.”
The newly released screenshots showcase both sides of that vision, highlighting colorful retro-inspired side-scrolling combat alongside dramatic boss encounters rendered in full 3D.
Final Boss is currently in development for PC and is available to wishlist on Steam. More details are expected during San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
