Exclusive: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes returns with time-travel graphic novel and Kickstarter campaign

The cult horror-comedy franchise is heading back to comics with mutant tomatoes, time travel, and a battle across two timelines.

PANICK Entertainment is bringing one of horror’s most delightfully absurd franchises back to comics. AIPT can exclusively reveal Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, an all-new original graphic novel launching on Kickstarter that pits humanity against an army of mutant tomatoes in a time-bending adventure.

The graphic novel is co-written by Bob Frantz and Kevin Cuffe (Metalshark Bro), with artwork by Bobby Timony (League of Super-Pets). Fans will also have two cover options to choose from, illustrated by Bob Fingerman and Tim Seeley.

Rather than retelling the classic 1978 film, the story pushes the franchise into the future.

Set in the year 2045, humanity has spent decades losing a war against Professor Mortimer Gangreen’s genetically engineered produce. With civilization on the verge of collapse, soldier Alexander volunteers for one final mission: travel back to 2026 and stop Gangreen before his plans can doom the future.

Unfortunately, humanity isn’t the only side with access to time travel.

After discovering the resistance’s technology, Gangreen’s cybernetic tomato army launches its own mission into the past, setting the stage for a chaotic battle across time as both sides race to reshape history.

According to PANICK Entertainment publisher Kris Longo, the project embraces everything fans love about the franchise.

“If you love insane, irreverent horror comedy, this book is for you,” Longo said. “And yes, I know tomatoes are a fruit.”

The graphic novel arrives during a major expansion for the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes franchise, which also includes consumer products and the upcoming feature film Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence.

Producer Michael Polis says the comic captures the spirit that has kept the franchise alive for nearly five decades.

“This graphic novel captures that same irreverent spirit, but expands the mythology in unexpected ways with bigger action, higher stakes, and plenty of mutant mayhem.”

The story also brings back familiar faces, including Chad, Tara, and the infamous Professor Mortimer Gangreen, while introducing an all-new chapter in the franchise’s history.

The Kickstarter campaign offers a variety of exclusive rewards, including:

  • Paperback and hardcover editions
  • Exclusive T-shirts
  • Killer Tomato plushies
  • Art prints
  • Classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes movie posters
  • Portfolio reviews and toy-making workshops
  • Additional campaign-exclusive rewards

Check out our exclusive preview images below, and if you’ve ever wondered what happens when killer tomatoes discover time travel, this graphic novel looks ready to answer that question in spectacularly ridiculous fashion.
