Two of pop culture’s most enduring heroines are finally sharing the same adventure. Dynamite Entertainment has announced Red Sonja / Barbarella, a brand-new crossover series launching this November that unites the She-Devil with a Sword and the legendary spacefaring heroine for the very first time.
The series is written by Homero Rios, making his Dynamite debut, with artwork by Diego Yapur. Together, the creative team brings two iconic characters from very different worlds into a story filled with ancient prophecy, cosmic mystery, and deadly consequences.
Barbarella begins the adventure searching for a mysterious black mirror connected to a forgotten chapter of her past. At the same time, Red Sonja rides beneath a blood-red sky to rescue an Oracle whose fate appears sealed by prophecy. Neither heroine knows the other exists, but unseen forces are drawing them together as their separate quests become one.
Rios, whose previous work includes Heavy Metal and Métal Hurlant, said the opportunity to unite the characters was one he embraced from the start.
“Writing Red Sonja and Barbarella together has been a thrill because they are both iconic, fearless, and larger than life. The goal from the start was to give readers a crossover that feels dangerous and worthy of both legends. One way or another, it’s going to be quite a ride.”
Joining Rios is artist Diego Yapur, whose credits include Bloodshot, The Lycan, and stories inspired by Frank Frazetta’s creations. Yapur also contributes covers to the series, alongside Joseph Michael Linsner, Collette Turner, and two photo covers featuring IvyCosplay portraying each heroine. Fans looking for a surprise can also hunt down special mystery blind bag editions.
