Is It Good? Harley Quinn #11 Review

Harley Quinn teaming up with Power Girl? Sign me up. Is it good?

Harley Quinn #11 (DC Comics)

Harley Quinn is about to have a new bestest buddy: Power Girl — although she’s suffering from a bad case of amnesia. Not one to miss out on an opportunity for fun, Harley Quinn manages to convince her they are best friends… and also a superhero duo. This’ll be fun.

Also, I think we might need a fire extinguisher in case she bursts into flames. She’s still smoking.

Harley Quinn #11 is exactly what I was looking/hoping for this month: A very fun, enjoyable, and goofy as heck team up between Harley and Power Girl. While it doesn’t have any superheroing going on in it (so that cover warning was right for once), it does instead feature awesome character exchanges and stellar humor. Admittedly, the story and humor does gets off to a slow start, but when they get going, the comic really takes off.

The writing by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti is skillful and a lot of fun. The two handle Power Girl like they haven’t missed a beat from the old series. Even with her amnesia, PG is still rather intelligent and able to suspect that something is very amiss in this so-called friendship she has with Harley; though she goes along with Harley’s claim for comedy’s sake, the reactions and interactions the two share are very funny. As for Harley herself, she is still a ton of fun, though I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see how she might act or fight as a “superhero”. Overall, I don’t think any fans of Power Girl are going to have a problem with her here.

The dialogue is fantastic, especially during the scenes with Harley and Power Girl. It’s really fun and has so much personality to it. The pacing is slow and methodical, the story flows well from page to page and the humor, again, is really damn funny and is sure to elicit a lot of laughs… especially if you like both characters. The ending is pretty solid too and can really get you excited to see what happens next.

The artwork by Chad Hardin is great too. The characters are very well drawn, and I really liked how Power Girl is portrayed, her expressions throughout, and the design of Harley Quinn’s costume. The layouts are solid, the comedic timing is portrayed well, and there are plenty of small sight gags going on in the background. Great looking book.

That or Supergirl… but then again, she’s not as stacked.

Is It Good?

Harley Quinn #11 is a ton of fun overall, bringing great humor and a well-executed guest appearance from Power Girl. The writing is great, the characterization is solid, and the artwork is solid. For fans of this series and Power Girl’s previous one, definitely give this a look since you’ll be certain to love this fun romp.
