Top 10 best selling comic books: July 2017

Batman nabs another few top spots as the overall market for comic books shrinks.

As is becoming a trend, Marvel was absolutely dominant in the top 10 list of best selling comics for the month of July, with a particularly strong showing for Astonishing X-Men #1, at 122,287 copies sold. Two issues of Secret Empire also did pretty well, selling over 80,000 copies a piece. All of DC’s representation in the top ten last month, also unsurprisingly, have to do with the Caped Crusader, as Dark Days: The Casting nabbed the top spot with 128,261 units sold, and issues #26 and #27 in the three and four slots, respectively, both at over 100,000.

3) Batman #26

AiPT! Score:

8.0

Units sold: 107,071
“A pretty good second installment of the “War of Jokes & Riddles” storyline that continues to put an interesting spin on two of Batman’s most infamous villains with an air of ominousness and intrigue looming above it all. Although we’re given some interesting developments between Joker and the Riddler, the war still seems like it’s in the build-up stages, which ultimately doesn’t give Batman much to do but bemoan for the second issue in a row.”

Batman #27 is The Killing Joke for Kite Man. Which is every bit as ridiculous, impressive and thoroughly enjoyable as it sounds. Hell yeah, Tom King.”

“Throws down with a lot of action, a few new surprises, and some question marks to keep you guessing. Though not perfect, it’s throwing out a lot of the punches events need to do to entertain.”

6) Secret Empire #7

AiPT! Score:

8.0

Secret Empire continues to be the grittiest comic book event in some time. There’s a tension that feels real, which isn’t something you see too often. Still, the story seems to drag and could move forward more diligently.”
